Transportation isn’t sexy, but it gets the people going

Listening to leaders from the county, the City of Santa Rosa, and the Sonoma County Transportation and Climate Authorities, one thing became clear: Sonoma County has moved beyond planning. Projects that have been talked about for years are finally getting built.

New interchanges. Road improvements. Bike and pedestrian connections. SMART expansions. Fire recovery projects. Flood protection. Airport investments. Regional transportation planning.

None of those projects happen overnight. Many have been years—or even decades—in the making.

What I appreciated most was hearing leaders talk less about building more and more about building better.

Making streets safer. Connecting neighborhoods. Finishing recovery projects. Fixing what we already have before chasing the next big thing.

In the end, infrastructure isn't just concrete and asphalt. It's how employees get to work. It's how products move. It's whether customers can reach your business. It's whether companies choose to invest here in the first place.

The projects discussed weren't flashy. But they are foundational.

If Sonoma County wants to remain competitive, these investments aren't optional. They're the work that makes everything else possible.
